Presenting   a contemporary group of 3 talented women, offering an alternative to conventional thinking on jewellery design. As they say “Our pieces pass through manual sensitivity and are innovative in technique, based on our long experience with ceramics and jewellery.“

Roberta Ferreira, Laura Jener & Bárbara Sendino are the body and soul of ‘dterra‘. In 2001 Roberta and Laura founded ‘Three Workshop’, a space where they develop their respective crafts, ceramics and jewellery. Over time they decide to merge the two disciplines and start experimenting in the field of jewellery, precious metals combined with ceramics. In 2007  they  took advantage of the incorporation of Bárbara Sendino also a  jewellery artist, to renew their  image and make themselves known outside the local area.

I love their organic shapes and truly amazing colours and textures, I feel inspired just looking at photos of their work.

Οι ‘dterra’ ειναι μια ομαδα που αποτελειτε απο 3 ταλαντουχες γυναικες, οπου μας προσφερουν μια διαφορετικη αποψη πανω στην συμβατικη ιδεα του κοσμηματος, και για τις νεες χρησεις στην κοινωνια που ζουμε. Χρησιμοποιουν τις γνωσεις και την εμπειρια τους στο κοσμημα αλλα και στην κεραμεικη και δημιουργουν με ευαισθησια και καινοτομια.

Οι Roberta Ferreira, Laura Jener & Bárbara Sendino ειναι οι δημιουργοι τις ‘dterra‘. Το 2001 η Roberta και η Laura  δημιουργησαν το ‘Three Workshop’, ενας χωρος οπου μπορουσαν να αναπτυξουν και να πειραματιστουν πανω στις τεχνες τους, κεραμεικη και κοσμημα. Με τον καιρο αποφασισαν να συγχωνευσουν τις γνωσεις τους και να πειραματισουν μαζι στον  χωρο του κοσμηματος, των μεταλλων σε συνδυασμο με την κεραμεικη. Το 2007 ηρθε και το τριτο και τελευταιο μελος της ομαδας Bárbara Sendino, απο τοτε εχουν ανανεωσει το image τους και εχουν ανοιξει τα φτερα τους σε ενα ποιο international κοινο.

This is my 1st interview in this blog, and I am very excited about showcasing Marina’s Lampropoulou work (aka tothemetal).

So this is Marina…

1. Please tell me a bit about yourself, like name, location, some personal stuff.

My name is Marina Lampropoulou. I have been living in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki for 5 years. I moved here from Athens with my better half and our two lovely dogs! I adore animals and nature, I like to cook and I admit I am addicted to the internet!

2. What is your art? & how would you describe your style?

I am jewelry maker/designer. I studied metalsmithing and jewelry design in Thessaloniki. I work mainly with silver often combined with titanium and various other materials.
I would describe my style as minimalistic. Simple organic and geometric forms intrigue me and I try to adapt them into my work.

3. 3 things that you mostly care about in this world.

My family and my friends, who have stood by me over the years, through thick and thin. Our planet and all the creatures on it. Recycle, don’t waste energy and water, respect animals and be kind to them.

I have a set of these myself, really elegant design

4. What inspires you?

I am fascinated by nature. Ever since I moved to Thessaloniki I have had the chance to be closer to it and observe it. Its perfection is miraculous, from the tiniest insect to the tallest tree. It is pure beauty.
I am also inspired by architecture and industrial design. From Antonio Gaudi to Frank Gehry and from Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto to Zaha Hadid and Tadao Ando to name but a few of my favorite architects.

5. What made you decide to become an artist?

It actually came as a surprise to me; I didn’t always know I would become an artist. I studied accounting and worked for a period of three years as an assistant accountant. Along the way I discovered I wasn’t satisfied with the nature of the work and its pressure. So after some soul searching and a lot of support by my better half and my family, I decided to resign from my job and study metalsmithing.

6. What is your favorite material and why?

At the moment I would have to say my favorite material is silver. I have experimented a great deal with it and I find its possibilities numerous.

7. Could you tell me 5 words that describe you best?

It is very difficult to describe oneself in only 5 words because ones personality is very complex but I’ll give it a shot! I am a very caring person, always considering other people’s feelings, sensitive and kind, optimistic but I tend to keep to myself.

8. Favorite movie?

The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky

9. Favorite food, cuisine & dish?

My favorite food is spaghetti by far! All kinds of it with any kind or topping! I am a big fan of the Greek cuisine and my favorite dish is stuffed tomatoes and peppers with rice, cooked the Cretan way!

10. Who is your favorite artist?

There are so many artists I admire but my all time favorite artist is Gustav Klimt. Gustav Klimt’s work was love at first site!

1. Πες μου καποια πραγματα για σενα, γενικα για την ζωη σου?

Λέγομαι  Μαρίνα Λαμπροπούλου. Ζω στην όμορφη Θεσσαλονίκη τα τελευταία 5 χρόνια. Μετακόμισα εδώ από την Αθήνα με τον σύντροφό μου και τα δυο πανέμορφα σκυλιά μας! Λατρεύω τη φύση και τα ζώα, απολαμβάνω τη μαγειρική και ομολογώ πως είμαι εθισμένη στο internet!

2. Ποια ειναι η τεχνη σου, και ποιο το στυλ σου πανω σε αυτην?

Σχεδιάζω και κατασκευάζω κοσμήματα. Σπούδασα αργυροχρυσοχοΐα και σχέδιο κοσμήματος στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Στη δουλειά μου χρησιμοποιώ κυρίως ασήμι σε συνδυασμό με τιτάνιο και διάφορα άλλα υλικά.
Το στυλ της δουλειάς μου είναι μινιμαλιστικό.  Με ελκύουν οι απλές οργανικές και γεωμετρικές φόρμες τις οποίες προσπαθώ να προσαρμόζω στα σχέδια μου.

3. 3 πραγματα που νοιαζεσαι περισσοτερο

Η οικογένειά μου και οι φίλοι μου, που είναι κοντά μου στα καλά και στα άσχημα. Ο πλανήτης μας και όλα τα πλάσματα που τον κατοικούν. Ανακυκλώστε, μην σπαταλάτε νερό και ενέργεια, σεβαστείτε τα ζώα και δείξτε τους αγάπη.

4. Τι ειναι αυτο που σε εμπνεει πανω στην δουλεια σου?

Με συναρπάζει η φύση. Από τότε που μετακόμισα στην Θεσσαλονίκη είχα την ευκαιρία να βρεθώ κοντά της και να την παρατηρήσω. Από το πιο μικροσκοπικό έντομο στο ψηλότερο δέντρο η τελειότητα της είναι μοναδική. Είναι η απόλυτη ομορφιά.
Πηγή έμπνευσής μου αποτελεί ακόμη η αρχιτεκτονική, καθώς και ο βιομηχανικός σχεδιασμός.  Μερίκοι από τους αρχιτέκτονες που θαυμάζω είναι οι: Antonio Gaudi, Frank Gehry, Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Andο.

5. Πως αποφασισες να γινεις σχεδιαστρια κοσμηματων?

Ήταν έκπληξη για εμένα η ενασχόληση με το κόσμημα. Σπούδασα λογιστική και εργάστηκα ως βοηθός λογιστή για διάστημα τριών ετών.  Κατά τη διάρκεια λοιπόν αυτών των τριών ετών συνειδητοποίησα ότι η φύση και η πίεση της συγκεκριμένης δουλειάς δεν με ευχαριστούσε. Έτσι, μετά από αρκετή εσωτερική αναζήτηση και με την υποστήριξη του συντρόφου μου και της οικογένειάς μου, αποφάσισα να παραιτηθώ από την θέση μου και ξεκίνησα τις σπουδές μου στην αργυροχρυσοχοΐα.

6. Ποια τα αγαπημενα σου υλικα και γιατι?

Αγαπημένο μου υλικό αυτή την περίοδο είναι το ασήμι. Έχω πειραματιστεί αρκετά με το ασήμι και οι δυνατότητες που προσφέρει σαν υλικό είναι πάρα πολλές.

7. Περιγραψε μου την Μαρινα με 5 λεξεις

Είναι πολύ δύσκολο να περιγράψει κανείς τον εαυτό του μόνο με 5 λέξεις, γιατί θεωρώ ότι η προσωπικότητα του καθενός είναι πολυσύνθετη. Παρόλα αυτά θα το προσπαθήσω! Ενδιαφέρομαι πολύ για τους άλλους, πάντα λαμβάνω υπόψη μου τα συναισθήματά των γύρω μου, είμαι ευαίσθητη και ευγενική, αισιόδοξη αλλά ιδιαίτερα κλειστός χαρακτήρας.

8. Αγαπημενη ταινια?

9. Αγαπημενο φαγητο/κουζινα?

Αγαπημένο μου φαγητό είναι μακράν τα μακαρόνια! Όλα τα είδη με οποιαδήποτε σάλτσα! Είμαι λάτρης της ελληνικής κουζίνας και από τα αγαπημένα μου πιάτα είναι τα γεμιστά, όπως τα μαγειρεύουν στην Κρήτη!

10. Και τελος, αγαπημενος καλλιτεχνης?

Είναι πάρα πολλοί οι καλλιτέχνες που θαυμάζω, αλλά από τους πιο αγαπημένους είναι ο Gustav Klimt. Τα έργα του Gustav Klimt ήταν για μένα έρωτας με την πρώτη ματιά!

I have been working on these lovelies for a week now, I have used the last two turquoise cabochons from my stash. I love turquoise in the summer, its like the sea and the sky all in one. Reminds me of vacations in the Greek islands.

I gave them a short of rustic feel and oxidized them for an antiqued look. I will upload this set into my shops in the next couple of days.

Το μπλε τουρκουαζ για μενα σηματοδοτει το καλοκαιρι, ειναι η πετρα συμβολο για τον καλοκαιρινο ηλιο και ουρανο και την ελληνικη θαλασσα.  Μετα τα 2 δαχτυλιδια με τουρκουαζ ερχεται ενα ζευγαρι σκουλαρικια με 2 ολοστρογγυλα τουρκουαζ καμποσον, τα τελευταια απο την συλλογη μου.

It’s  so amazing when you wake up on Saturday morning, you have no work and the weather is absolutely perfect for a walk.  So I drove into the centre, traffic wasn’t so bad, I even found car parking easily. And ended up in P. Koromila Street where the Ζητα-Μι’ gallery is.
