Sunday’s work – a brooch / καρφιτσα

A few weeks now a best friend has asked me to make her a brooch to wear with a specific sweater she has. Its been a long time since I practiced metal-smithing so I was feeling a bit hesitant…I was thinking hard about the design of the brooch.

She had to remind me a couple of times, asking me when is my brooch going to be ready, have you started working on it yet? Thankfully she let me do whatever I wanted, and I came up with this.

The A is for her 9 month old baby, soon to be called Achilles.

Update: After the photo was taken I textured the whole surface of the letter.

Finally I finished this brooch, it’s a commissioned piece from a friend. It was my first attempt with cold glaze resin and fortunately it went OK. I used Art Clay Silver for the frame and faceted gemstone beads.

Αυτη η καρφιτσα μου πηρε τελικα περισσοτερο απο οσο φανταζομουν, ηταν και η πρωτη φορα που χρησιμοποιησα υγρο γυαλι.

I got 4 of these fabulous vintage glass cabochons, and made a ring with one of them.
